So. Fic meme.

Ooooh. Um. Movieverse, please, I think, or thereabouts, and 'what Arthur thinks of Gawain'. Because I'm curious. :D (and obsessed. :D )

Arthur was a little wary of the long haired knight when he first met him. The man - or rather boy, at the time - had a 'presence' that was too old for his face.

When he asked around, and it turned out that Gawain (Arthur had found out his name from one of the quiet ones, Dagonet) was only fifteen, Arthur blinked and made sure he spent adequate time in the chapel that evening, praying for the soul of his newest and youngest.

When Galahad arrived, Arthur made sure the two boys were paired together, as he remembered the whiteness of Gawain's face and the blood that had been smeared on his too large armor after Gawain's first battle. He hoped that the blond would take the new one under his wing and show him how to survive in their cold world.

When Arthur was dying, and his son on the throne, and Gawain at his bedside, he cracked a small smile as he remembered those days. Gawain, his hair shot through with more silver than blond, cocked his head and gave Arthur a puzzled face.

"D'you remember when I forced Galahad upon you?"

Arthur voice was still deep and still resonated, but it hurt Gawain to hear the age in it. He knew his old commander would be going to see his God sooner rather than later, and he humored the old man and sat on the bed next to him.

"Gods, Arthur. I could have joined Lancelot in trying to slit your throat for that," he laughed quietly. "He was such a brat. Always spilling things, drinking too much, trying to act as if nothing mattered but getting by."

Arthur smiled gently at the mention of Lancelot, and touched Gawain's hand. "The first time I saw you, my thought was 'there's a fierce one.' But, Gawain. None of us could have done what we did alone. I saw in you the strength to help shoulder Galahad - and me."

He coughed and rested his head against his pillows. "Lancelot wanted to slit my throat, hm?"

"Oh, for years," Gawain said matter of factly. He winked at Arthur and stood when the older man smiled tiredly.

"Rest, my King," he added. "We can talk of the old times tomorrow."

The day Arthur was buried, Gawain remembered that Arthur had always trusted him, no questions asked. No matter if Gawain spouted awful words at him, no matter that he'd tried to scheme with Lancelot to trip up the annoying young Roman who they'd had the misfortune to have as their commander.

When the mourners were gone, Gawain touched Excalibur one last time, and turned from Badon Hill, disappearing into the forest, one more ghost fading from the light and from memory.

I thought it rather cheesy imagery, but I did have fun with it. :)))) Glad you liked, dear. And thanks for the prompt. I don't get to do anything with Gawain much. *hugs*
